Okay, so, I’ve been thinking a lot about cutting down on waste, you know, trying to be a bit more eco-friendly. And one of the things that kept bugging me was those darn plastic straws. I mean, you use them for like, five minutes, and then they end up in the trash, probably floating around in the ocean for a gazillion years. Not cool.
So, I started looking into reusable straws. First I thought it’s just too hard, but then I was like, whatever, let’s give it a try. Then I decided to dive into this whole reusable straw world.

Research and Choose
- First, I hit up the internet, just Googling “best reusable straws” and stuff like that.
- Then, I read a bunch of articles and reviews.
- I checked out what different people were saying on forums and social media.
- I also asked around, you know, friends and family, to see if anyone had recommendations.
There are so many options out there! Stainless steel, glass, bamboo, silicone… it was kinda overwhelming, to be honest. After a while, I narrowed it down to stainless steel and silicone.
I ended up ordering a set of stainless steel ones that came with a little cleaning brush, and also a pack of colorful silicone straws, because they looked kinda fun. I bought the stainless steel ones and the silicone ones in physical store. It was cool because I could touch and see the real products.
Test and Use
- When they arrived, I was pretty excited to try them out. I washed them first, obviously.
- Then I made myself a big ol’ iced coffee and popped in a stainless steel straw.
- It felt a bit weird at first, ngl, because it’s cold and hard, unlike a plastic straw.
- But I got used to it pretty quickly. And it was actually kinda nice, because the drink seemed to stay colder.
- And I also tried different drinks with different straws.
The silicone straws were cool too. They’re bendy and soft, which is great for smoothies or thicker drinks. My kid loves them because they’re colorful, he said they are like toys. Cleaning them was easy peasy, just used the brush that came with the stainless steel ones, or sometimes I just threw them in the dishwasher, that was super convenient.
Reflect and Keep Going
So yeah, that’s my reusable straw journey so far. It’s been a few months now, and I’m definitely a convert. I carry one in my bag wherever I go. It’s not that hard, I mean, it just takes a little bit of getting used to. It is really easy to keep going on using the reusable straws. I feel pretty good about not adding to the plastic problem, and hey, my drinks taste just as good, maybe even better, ’cause I know I’m doing something good for the planet.
Anyway, I just wanted to share my experience. Maybe it’ll inspire some of you to give reusable straws a try. It’s a small change, but it can make a difference, right?
